Washington County Cheese, Wine and Beer Tour
The 2019 tour is scheduled for September 7th and 8th. This year we have added a new cheesemaking farm, vineyard and brewery to expand the Washington County experience. The tour is organized by The Washington County Cheese Makers to showcase their farms and award-winning products. Just one hour’s drive north of Albany, four hours from NYC and four hours from Boston, the annual Washington County Cheese tour is a perfect weekend trip (plan to stay in one of the many quaint country inns or B&Bs that dot the landscape). The self-guided tour is free. Cheese is also available for purchase at each farm. Check out our sponsors and map to plan your itinerary. Start your tour at any of the farms. All the farms are conveniently located within a circle with a 20-mile radius.
From freshly made Chèvre to ripened Camembert-style cheeses and aged Cheddar, the annual Washington County Cheese Tour will delight palates and enthrall cheese lovers of every age. On September 7th & 8th, several creative farmstead cheese makers in Washington County will open their farms to the public. On a self-guided tour, visitors will drive through lush, rolling hills and bucolic countryside. The only prerequisite is an appetite and interest in learning about and sampling award-winning local cheeses and enjoying the changing colors of our famed maple trees. At each farm, guests will sample specially selected cheeses, wine and beer while experiencing first hand the region’s long-standing cheese making traditions reaching back to the nineteenth century. All are active farms, raising cows, sheep, and goats that supply the milk for the cheese-making process.
